We are currently seeking a friendly & reliable driver to join our team! The ideal candidate is responsible for transporting plant material to local garden centers, landscape jobs, etc. within designated routes mainly during our busy spring and fall seasons.

The remaining part of the year duties will include mowing, construction, and various jobs around the nursery. This job requires excellent driving skills, a strong commitment to customer service, and the ability to handle various types of delivery vehicles, including box trucks.

They're blooming and beautiful! We have Pansies for $1 each 4" pot!

Tips to care for Pansies in late winter:

🌿Plant them in full to mostly sunny locations. They will bloom best where they can receive plenty of sunlight. Shady spots tend to make them leggy (as they're searching for more sunlight!) and not bloom as much.

🌿Plant them in color blocks for a jaw-dropping look, or mix them for a colorful display! We love planting color blocks of these flowers in gardening beds, and then mixing them up in container pots. This is only a suggestion- there are many beautiful ways to plant them!

🌿Remember to keep them watered every few days (unless the soil is moist). The water acts as an insulator in the soil, insulating their roots. This is a great tip to follow for any newly planted tree or plant as well (newly planted means anything you've planted within the last year).

🌿They may look puny for a few weeks during a cold snap in winter- especially if we have ice or snow. Although these flowers prefer the cold weather, they do tend to look a bit frozen for a few days or weeks if we have a cold front come through. Continue to water them (as needed) to help insulate them. They stay perkier that way and also happier.

🌿Pinch back spent blooms on Pansies if you'd like. Pansies do not have to have their spent blooms picked off, but they bloom more often when they do.

🌿After winter, continue to water and care for them. They will dazzle and amaze you until the weather significantly heats up in mid-May.

🌿Professional tip: If you have spring bulbs planted in your garden, plant Pansies around that area. It will add extra beauty and help hide fading bulb blooms later in spring (as your Pansies will still be blooming).

With the bitterly cold temps coming our way, here is how to help protect sensitive plants:

❄️Bring container pots into your garage or shed if possible during the next several days. Fragile pots like terracotta need to be emptied and stay in the shed until temps warm up in spring.

❄️If you can not bring your pots inside, water them well during the day and cover them at night. This will help insulate them better from the cold.

❄️Zone 7 plants, such as Camellia (shown in 📸), Gardenia, and Loropetalum, will be more sensitive to this cold weather. They can be covered with frost cloth or an old towel/blanket to help keep them warm at night. Never use plastic to cover plants. Plants that are hardy for colder zones should be fine overall.

❄️Any plants you haven't planted yet that are still in pots need to be brought into your garage or shed if possible.

❄️It will be very cold the next few days, but by following these tips, it should help minimize any damage. Ask us any questions below!

We have been working on new shelving this week inside our warm and cozy main greenhouse. These shelves will hold more houseplants, annuals and product! 🌿

Spring is 61 days away, friends! 🐦🌷🌼🎉

Take care of the feathered friends in your garden this winter with these tips:

🐦When creating a haven for birds, they need you to provide food, water, and shelter. It's imperative to provide food that birds love to attract them to your garden. Songbirds love sunflower seeds, while almost all backyard birds love peanuts (unsalted) and dried fruits such as cranberries and raisins.

🐦Nesting places and birdhouses; birds need a variety of places where they can build a home in your garden. There are also certain plants that birds are attracted to more than others. Many of these are also pollinator attractors.

🐦Some examples include:

🌿Annuals and perennials: Coneflower, Black-eyed Susan, Anise Hyssop, Sunflower, Honeysuckle vine, Hosta, Zinnia, Milkweed

🌿Shrubs and trees: Dogwood, Crabapple, Juniper, Viburnum, Serviceberry, Holly

🐦In addition to the above plants, we offer bird seed, birdfeeders, and birdhouses here at the nursery. We're happy to help you select options that will attract specific birds to your garden. Happy Thursday, friends!

✨️Quick Tips:
🌿 Water well when the soil is dry (stick your finger about an inch into the soil to see if it is dry) and then let it completely dry out again before watering
🌿 Be careful to only water soil and not the foliage
🌿 Place in a room with bright, indirect sunlight
🌿 If repotting, use succulent soil and choose a pot with a drainage hole

We've got the tips to keep your tree lasting as long as possible! It's important, firstly, to purchase a pre-cut tree that is as fresh as possible. You can usually tell by looking at it and running your fingers over the branches- the fresher the tree, the less needles will fall. 🎄

🎄Keep your tree away from air vents blowing directly on it (it will dry it out a lot faster)

🎄Check the water every day; the freshest trees take in the most water and could need water every day or every couple of days. If the base of the trunk dries out, it seals with sap and doesn't absorb water

🎄If you aren't bringing into your home right away, trim the trunk slightly before bringing in so it is a fresh cut/ soaks up more water

🎄Do not place your fresh tree directly beside a fireplace or heat source, as the heat can dry out the tree faster

🎄As the season continues, if the tree begins to look dry, trim those branches (often the lower branches will look drier first)

BONUS TIP!✨️🎄Choose LED bulbs for your christmas tree lights over incandescent, as LED helps preserve your tree longer than incandescent (which gets hot to the touch and can dry out your tree)
